In seven years of writing about men’s style, never has a belt appeared in any of my columns. In hindsight, this is quite silly. As a big man with a flat booty, there is no keeping the pants up without a belt. Basically, if I’m dressed and ready for action, I’m wearing a belt.
Belts, however, have garnered little attention. Belts are a basic necessity for pants wearing and have never really been particularly interesting, until now. You really need to know about Nexbelt.
Nexbelt makes really handsome belts in a wide variety of styles and colors. Golf belts, dress belts, and belts that are motorsports themed, Nexbelt makes them all. It even makes tactical belts that are designed to be strong enough to support the sidearm of your choice.
What makes these belts different from just about every other belt you’ve ever owned is the fact that it has no holes. Instead of the old pin and hole system with which we are all, presumably, familiar, Nexbelt has come up with something much more clever. Sandwiched between the two layers of belt material is an exposed ratchet strap made from polyamide nylon. This ratchet strip interfaces with a really slick buckle that uses a magnetic pawl to secure the belt at the desired length. Adjustments can be made in quarter inch increments. This system is so slick and so uncomplicated that it seems weird that it took this long to become a thing.
For this review, BFF got a hold of the Go-In Fast Eddie Carbon Black Golf Belt. Let it now be known, that this is a seriously good belt. The Carbon Fiber-look finish has a soft luster to it that should last for years since the ratchet strip and not the actual belt is doing most of the work. The leather is smooth, stiff, and beautifully finished. The buckle, thanks to its using a strong magnet instead of a spring that can stretch and wear out, should last pretty much forever.
After a month of use, the Go-In Fast Eddie Carbon Black Golf Belt is showing no sign of wear at all. The ratchet strip of the belt clicks into the pawl of the buckle decisively and holds securely all day no matter what. With a Nexbelt, the first impression is pretty great, but the lasting impression it makes is even better.
